Well-being, burnout, depression, and suicide

Burnout may be one of many factors that contribute to physician distress, but depression is a higher risk factor for suicide.

National Suicide Prevention Week is Sept. 4-10 and National Physician Suicide Awareness Day is Sept. 17, 2022. A number of organizations have joined to raise awareness and advocate for physicians. The Physicians Foundation, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes’ Foundation are three places to start learning more. If you are in crisis, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 988, or contact the Crisis Text Line by texting TALK to 741741.
