Meet MedWay, a new business support program for independent physicians in California

With support from the California Medical Association, MedWay can handle, administrative and business paperwork.

Some physicians truly enjoy running their practice as their own small business, while others manage it as secondary but necessary support for medicine.

What options are there for doctors who want to practice independently, with a trusted operator overseeing the daily duties of business?

In California, MedWay, a management program started by the California Medical Association (CMA), hopes to fill that need. MedWay started in spring 2025 as a subscription service that can manage human resources, payroll and other administrative support needs in smaller, independent medical practices.

In this video series, MedWay CEO David Ford discusses the origin of the program and its goal of helping relieve business pressures for physicians, allowing them more time to focus on the reason they studied medicine in the first place: to heal patients.
