What they’re saying about the Physician Led and Rural Access to Quality Care Act - a slideshow

New legislation prompts statements of support from physicians, lawmakers.

Physician ownership in hospitals could improve patient access to health care in rural areas where the facilities are struggling, and federal legislators want to make it easier for that to happen.

This month a group of bipartisan lawmakers in Washington, D.C., announced the Physician Led and Rural Access to Quality Care Act. The bill would allow certain exemptions to federal rules for physician-owned hospitals, while allowing expansion of existing ones.

Rep. Michael C. Burgess, MD (R-Texas), announced the legislation with comments from supporters. This slideshow presents statements from fellow legislators sponsoring the bill, and additional health care experts.
