WalletHub's latest report shows where immunization rates are highest, underscoring disparities across the U.S.
Vaccination remains one of the most reliable safeguards in modern medicine, yet uptake varies significantly by state, reflecting differences in policy, access and public attitudes.
A new WalletHub analysis ranked states based on 16 measures of immunization, from childhood vaccine completion to adult flu and shingles shots. The results highlight where coverage is strongest — and where gaps persist.
The WalletHub report underscores both progress and ongoing challenges. While states in the Northeast dominate the top tier, Southern states like Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia sit at the bottom, highlighting stark regional disparities.
“Seeing as being anti-vaccination has become trendy in some circles and misinformation is all over the internet, it’s more crucial now than ever to spread awareness of the benefits of vaccines and make sure as many people as possible receive potentially life-saving immunizations,” said Chip Lupo, a WalletHub analyst.
The study compared all 50 states and the District of Columbia across three categories: children and teen immunization rates, adult and elderly vaccination and disparities or influencing factors.
Sixteen metrics were used, including flu shot coverage, HPV vaccination rates, shingles vaccination among older adults and insurance coverage.
For physicians and practice leaders, the findings highlight both public health strengths and persistent vulnerabilities. The regional divide in vaccination coverage not only reflects cultural and political differences but also influences community-level risk during outbreaks. Access, education and policy remain critical levers for improving uptake.
Vaccines continue to save millions of lives each year, according to the World Health Organization. Yet as the report makes clear, where a patient lives still has a significant impact on whether they — and their community — are protected.
