Burnout among physicians, nurses, and clinicians in health care was approaching problematic levels before the COVID-19 pandemic. Systemic failures contribute to that, but pointing out the issue is not the same as offering solutions, so the time was right for the National Academy of Medicine to draft its national plan on workforce well-being. Victor J. Dzau, MD, president of the National Academy of Medicine, discusses creation of the plan.
