According to Xenix, the system features a modular head design that allows surgeons to attach and remove the tulip head from the screw shank using a single-step mechanism. The company said the design provides both audible and tactile confirmation when the components are securely connected.
The company said the tulip-to-shank interface was engineered and tested to provide strength comparable to leading pre-assembled pedicle screw systems while maintaining the flexibility of a modular platform.
Andrew Park, a partner at Texas Spine Consultants in Dallas, said the system's range of screw heads and shanks gives surgeons greater flexibility in creating patient-specific constructs.
"There are other modular systems on the market, but none give me the freedom to create my ideal construct for each patient like Riva," Park said in a statement.
The Riva system includes multiple tulip head and screw shank configurations designed to accommodate varying anatomical requirements and complex surgical constructs. Xenix said the platform is intended to reduce the need for separate implant systems by providing a broader range of options within a single system.
The company said it has incorporated feedback gathered during the alpha launch into its commercial rollout strategy and is expanding distribution and surgeon access across the United States.
Xenix also announced plans to expand the platform's capabilities. Future developments include integrating the company's NanoACTIV surface technology, adding sacropelvic fixation and attachment options for complex deformity procedures, and extending the system for use in minimally invasive surgery.
