Tandem's t:slim X2 insulin pump now compatible with Abbott's FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus CGM in five countries
Key Takeaways
- Live integration in five European markets expands CGM choice for t:slim X2 Control-IQ+ users, with Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany targeted for rollout later in 2026.
- FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus delivers 15-day wear and one-minute glucose transmission, enabling Control-IQ+ to update insulin dosing every five minutes based on predicted glycemia.
Tandem Diabetes Care expands its Control-IQ+ automated insulin delivery system to work with Abbott's newest 15-day continuous glucose monitor across the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Sweden, Finland and Italy, with Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany slated to follow later this year.
Tandem Diabetes Care Inc. (NASDAQ: TNDM) announced that its t:slim X2 insulin pump with Control-IQ+ automated insulin delivery (AID) technology is now compatible with Abbott's FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) sensor in five European countries, giving pump users in those markets an additional sensor option for closed-loop diabetes management.
The compatibility is now live in the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Sweden, Finland and Italy. According to the company, Tandem expects to extend the integration to Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany later in 2026, with customers in those countries to be notified once the feature becomes available.
The FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensor can be worn for up to 15 days and transmits glucose readings every minute. Paired with the t:slim X2 pump, that data feeds directly into Control-IQ+, the latest version of Tandem's hybrid closed-loop algorithm, which adjusts insulin delivery every five minutes based on predicted glucose values. The system also includes Tandem's AutoBolus feature, which the company describes as unique among AID systems for its ability to calculate and deliver a correction bolus when a user misses a meal-time bolus. Glucose data from the sensor is also viewable through the Tandem t:slim mobile app.
"People using AID want flexibility in the devices they use," Jordan Pinsker, MD, chief medical officer at Tandem Diabetes Care, said in a statement. "The addition of Abbott's latest generation sensor expands CGM choice for people using our Control-IQ+ technology."
Igor Friedmann, senior vice president of international at Tandem, framed the five-country launch as part of a broader international rollout. "This is an exciting next step in our strategy to connect the Tandem portfolio of insulin pumps to Abbott's FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensors worldwide," Friedmann said. "We look forward to expanding access for our t:slim X2 pump users in more countries in the coming months."

For physicians managing patients on insulin pump therapy, sensor interoperability has become an increasingly relevant consideration in device selection. Diabetes technology has moved steadily toward open ecosystems in which pumps, sensors and mobile apps from different manufacturers can be paired based on patient preference rather than being locked into a single vendor's hardware. That shift reflects regulatory pathways in both the U.S. and Europe that increasingly favor interoperable automated insulin delivery components, allowing patients to mix and match pumps and sensors as new generations of devices reach market. For physicians and diabetes care teams, broader sensor compatibility can simplify prescribing conversations, particularly for patients who have a strong preference for a specific CGM based on wear time, insertion process, or insurance coverage.
The FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensor is one of several next-generation CGMs that pump manufacturers have raced to integrate as the automated insulin delivery category has matured. Longer wear times, faster data transmission intervals and expanding smartphone compatibility have become common competitive differentiators across the sector, and manufacturers have increasingly framed multi-sensor compatibility as a way to reduce switching costs for patients who move between devices over the course of long-term diabetes management.
Tandem Diabetes Care is based in San Diego, California, and manufactures automated insulin delivery systems including the t:slim X2 and Tandem Mobi pumps, both built on Control-IQ+ closed-loop technology.
