Health care hiring: Trends, lessons and challenges

If it feels like health care hiring is slow to improve, it may be because at least one metric showed hiring conditions worsened in 2025.

A national shortage of health care workers is making it difficult to find qualified candidates. But lack of suitable applicants is not the only difficulty. In 2025, the time to hire increased while the percentage of hiring goals attained decreased compared with 2024. A full 34% of health care respondents reported that as a hiring challenge in 2025, according to the “2026 Hiring Insights Report” published by GoodTime, a company that specializes in using artificial intelligence to streamline hiring processes in health care and other sectors.
