Where do Americans get their medical advice?

A slideshow with results from a Gallup survey about sources of information for health.

With the vast array of health information available from artificial intelligence (AI), social media, television and the internet, who needs physicians for medical information anymore?

Lots of people, it turns out.

Survey organization Gallup has published “Four Ways Americans Seek Medical Advice,” with results from questions asked in November 2025. For most people in the United States, “doctors remain the cornerstone of medical information,” although patients certainly query various other outlets for health-related advice, according to the results.

This slideshow presents some of the findings from the “Americans’ Go-To Sources for Medical Information” section of the survey. Percentages show the percent of respondents indicating which, if any, sources they go to for medical information and advice. All data come from Gallup, published on Feb. 12.
