Now in its 18th year, ECRI’s Top 10 Health Technology Hazards report identifies critical health care technology issues. ECRI follows a rigorous review process to select topics, drawing insight from incident investigations, reporting databases, and independent medical device testing. Since its creation in 2008, the report has supported hospitals, health systems, ambulatory surgery centers, and manufacturers in mitigating risks.

This year’s report has a number of interesting entries. How many of them are in your practice?

The ECRI report makes it clear that health are leaders need to promote a systems approach to safety: understanding how people, technology, and processes interact in real-world conditions.

Technology continues to change medicine, and emerging topics in the top 10 highlight the evolving landscape of health care technology, as well as recurring challenges that warrant renewed focus. ECRI experts say this year’s report emphasizes the growing necessity for health care organizations to strengthen and enhance their technology selection, implementation, and monitoring processes.
