Spring Break for Adults

Article

Travel during March and April can be hazardous for adults and families who are headed for any of the spots favored by the hordes of college-age revelers on spring break. Steering clear of their favorite beach locales -- places like Cancun, Miami Beach, and Panama City Beach -- is a must for those who are looking for a more relaxing and peaceful vacation.

Probably the top family-oriented destination is Orlando, say travel consultants, which is loaded with tourist attractions like Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, Sea World, and Universal Orlando. If you’re still looking for a beach, but one that’s less crowded, you might find one just an hour from Orlando on Florida’s Space Coast, which features miles of open beaches along with the Kennedy Space Center. Another Florida spot to consider is Ft. Lauderdale, a town that was once the epicenter of spring break activities, but which has discouraged the college crowd since the late 1980s. If you can spare the cash, an upscale destination like Sea Island, Georgia, or Hilton Head, South Carolina, may be the place for you.

On the other hand, if this year’s blizzards haven’t turned you off to the idea of snow, you might want to think about a ski resort vacation. Spring skiing has a lot going for it — longer days and milder temperatures to name a couple. Check out resorts in Utah and Colorado, as well as Montreal and Quebec, for travel deals. And now that the Olympic crowds have left Vancouver, you can have it all – springtime temperatures in the city and skiing in the nearby mountains, including Cypress Mountain, where the Olympic skiers competed for the gold medals.
