Physicians make $1.6m for hospitals

Article

Family and general internal medicine doctors each generate more than $1.6m in net revenue on behalf of their affiliated hospitals, according to a new study.

Family and general internal medicine doctors each generate more than $1.6 million in net revenue on behalf of their affiliated hospitals, according to a study by a physician placement firm.

A general internist generates $1,678,341 a year on average for his or her affiliated hospital, according to Merritt Hawkins, a national physician search firm. A family physician generates $1,622,832 a year.

The survey is based on data from 114 hospital chief financial officers nationwide who quantified how much revenue physicians in 17 specialties generated for their hospitals in the last 12 months. This included both net inpatient and outpatient revenue.
