One Big Beautiful Bill Act — What physicians need to know

Fact checked by:

Here’s a summary about health care regulations and changes coming in the nation’s newest spending plan supported by congressional Republicans.

On July 4, President Donald J. Trump signed into law the legislation and spending plan known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA).

The bill has a number of effects across different sectors of the economy, including health care.

This slideshow compiles some facts, figures and responses from a variety of sources that analyzed the legislation, which was pending for weeks. It prompted a number of warnings about potential effects on health care — especially regarding potential cuts to Medicaid, along with effects on hospitals and health insurance for people who obtain coverage using the Affordable Care Act Marketplaces.

The White House has argued the bill will strengthen Medicaid by eliminating waste, fraud and abuse. It also will block illegal immigrants from receiving Medicaid.

Supporters of telehealth and medical technology said OBBBA has some provisions that will help those respective elements within health care — and, ultimately, patients.
