The U.S. Surgeon General’s Office has supported solutions for physician and clinician burnout. Congress approved the Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act, a good start, but not the final solution, to alleviate burnout among doctors and support staff. Victor J. Dzau, MD, president of the National Academy of Medicine, discusses the Academy’s National Plan for Health Workforce Well-Being, which has seven priority areas to improve work conditions for physicians and medical staff, and ultimately improve patient care.
