Documentation is important in health care, but physicians should not be responsible for records that do not contribute to patient care. Low-level tasks could be automated so physicians can spend more time with patients. Victor J. Dzau, MD, president of the National Academy of Medicine, discusses the Academy’s National Plan for Health Workforce Well-Being, which has seven priority areas to improve work conditions for physicians and medical staff, and ultimately improve patient care.
