Apart from lower quality of life in patients, long COVID could become a huge loss to the American economy as a large number of patients leave the workforce to deal with illness over time. Monica Verduzco-Gutierrez, MD, FAAPMR, specializes in brain injury medicine and physical medicine and rehabilitation at UT Health San Antonio, and is a volunteer leader and member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.
