Is there a business case for AI tools in a small practice?

Fact checked by: Todd Shryock

The number of doctors using AI tools is rapidly increasing, but for a smaller practice, does the business case make sense?

AI adoption in clinical practice is accelerating across several fronts, with ambient documentation tools leading the way as physicians look to reduce administrative burden and combat burnout. AI-powered diagnostic support is also expanding rapidly, particularly in imaging and cardiac monitoring, where algorithms now assist in flagging abnormalities earlier and more consistently than manual review alone. Front-office and administrative functions, including scheduling, patient intake, and insurance verification, are increasingly handled by AI-driven systems, freeing staff for higher-value tasks. At the same time, growing use of AI in handling sensitive patient data has intensified scrutiny around cybersecurity and HIPAA compliance. And the biggest question for smaller practices is simple: Are these AI tools worth the money and risk?

In this episode of Vital Signs with Dr. Sarah Matt, she discusses AI tools for doctors and how to make the business case for buying them.
