Election 2026: The physicians headed to the 120th Congress

Fact checked by: Keith A. Reynolds

It appears a record number of doctors won election or re-election in the 2026 mid-terms. Here's who they are.

There will be a healthy number of doctors in the House and Senate when the 120th Congress convenes in January, and a few physician candidates were part of the races that helped shift control of Congress.

The current Congress tied the record of 20 physicians, according to an October analysis by the American College of Gastroenterology. As of Nov. 4, 18 physicians had secured seats for the next session. Three more were leading in races that had not been called. If all three hold on, the new Congress would set a record with 21 doctors.

Here's a slideshow of the physicians who will serve in Congress starting in 2027, adapted with coverage from sister publication Chief Healthcare Executive. It also covers the doctors leaving Capitol Hill, two physician governors and a health care policy leader also heading for a state governorship. Biographical details and photographs were compiled from news reports, official websites and campaign sites.
