Drivers of health: Patients speak out

Patients and physicians agree: It’s appropriate to ask about drivers of health.

Patients and doctors agree it’s appropriate for physicians to ask their patients about drivers of health that affect patients’ lives. It’s a part of good health care for patients and it can assist relieving burnout for clinicians, says Physicians Foundation President Gary Price, MD, MBA. The Physicians Foundation has studied how these affect patient health, and believes a proposal by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for a Universal Foundation to measure drivers of health could lead to new ways for doctors to help patients deal with social and economic conditions that affect well-being.
