Are you ready to pull the trigger on retirement?

Retirement isn't just about the money; it requires the right mindset going into it.

For many physicians, retirement planning has long centered on the numbers: savings targets, portfolio performance, tax strategies and withdrawal rates. Although these financial considerations remain essential, an increasing number of physicians approaching retirement are discovering that financial readiness alone does not guarantee a successful transition. The shift from a demanding medical career to a new phase of life requires something equally important: the right mindset.

After decades defined by purpose, structure and professional identity, retirement can feel less like a finish line and more like a major life reset. Physicians who thrive in retirement often do so because they have prepared not only their balance sheets, but also their expectations, routines and sense of purpose. Questions such as “What will give my days meaning?” or “How will I stay mentally and socially engaged?” or “What does fulfillment look like beyond clinical practice?” become just as critical as financial projections.

In this episode, Bryan Jepson, M.D., CFP, discusses the mindset you need to enter retirement.
