Michael Blackman, M.D., MBA, says rapid change and integration challenges still make adoption difficult for many practices.
Michael Blackman, M.D., MBA, chief medical officer of Greenway Health, spoke with Medical Economics at the MGMA Leaders Conference 2025 in Orlando about the biggest barriers preventing widespread artificial intelligence (AI) adoption in medical practices. He said the market’s rapid evolution and overwhelming number of new products can make it difficult for leaders to know when — and where — to invest.
“At the moment, there are so many different choices,” Blackman said. “Everybody has something new every six months, but it could be more frequent than that. So it’s hard to know when to jump in.”
He advised practices to focus less on the technology itself and more on identifying the specific problems they want to solve, ensuring that any AI solution integrates smoothly into existing workflows.
