AOA takes OMED 2020, House of Delegates Meeting virtual

The American Osteopathic Association (AOA) announced that this October’s OMED conference and House of Delegates Meeting will be taking place in the digital realm, according to a letter from President and CEO Kevin M. Klauer, DO, EJD.

The letter says the AOA Board of Trustees voted to host OMED 2020 as a virtual conference rather than the live event scheduled for Oct. 15 to 19 after extensive discussions with the organization’s affiliate leaders and other stakeholders. The decision was made in the interest of protecting the health and safety of DOs and medical students with regard to the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic and the possibility of a fall resurgence of the disease.

“Although we won’t be able to meet in person this year, rest assured that we are focused on making OMED 2020 a can’t-miss event for cutting-edge educational programming, insightful discussions on the evolving practice of medicine, the advancement of the osteopathic profession and networking opportunities with your colleagues,” Klauer writes.

The AOA House of Delegates special meeting scheduled for Oct. 13 to 14 will also be held virtually. The organization is currently working out the logistics of making that happen with the speaker and vice speaker but is committed to maintaining the critical functions and roles of the House of Delegates including resolution consideration and debate, the letter says.

Due to the change, AOA promises to work collaboratively and expeditiously with stakeholders for input before making any decisions in regard to the event schedule, presentation platform, content, and CME credit, the letter says.
