TripAdvisor's Top 25 US Attractions

 

TripAdvisor’s recently released Attractions Trend Index reveals what your fellow Americans have been thinking about doing this summer – some of which they may have already done. Scenic views, shopping districts, and iconic sites dominate the top 10 of the 25 trending, summer US attractions listed on the survey by TripAdvisor, the travel planning and booking site.

Rankings were determined based on the increase in search sessions for American travelers between May and July of 2016 versus the same period in 2015. The number one attraction – One World Observatory, World Trade Center, New York City – received a 340.7% increase. From the 102^nd floor of the building, you can see 50 miles on a clear day.

“Travelers looking to take advantage of the remaining weeks of summer and shoulder season still have plenty of time to book a special trip and explore some of these American attractions growing in popularity,” said Brooke Ferencsik, senior director of communications for TripAdvisor.

1.  One World Observatory, World Trade Center, New York City: This attraction received the most increase in searches to win the number one spot. Increase in searches: 340.7%

3. Gatlinburg Scenic Overlook, Gatlinburg, TN: The pull-off on the Gatlinburg Bypass offers scenic downtown and Smoky Mountains views. Increase in searches: 112.5%

5. Mount Bonnell, Austin, TX: Hike almost 800-feet above the city for scenic views. Increase in searches: 109.2%.

9. Watkins Glen State Park, Watkins Glen, NY: The park, known for its race track, offers hiking and waterfalls in the Finger Lakes region. Increase in searches: 96.4%

2. The Magnificent Mile, Chicago, IL: Browse the stores in this 13-block area. Increase in searches: 118%.

4. The Pearl District, Portland, OR: Shop and dine in this buzzworthy one-half square mile. Increase in searches: 109.3%.

6. Newbury Street, Boston, MA: Stroll, shop and dine in this upscale one-mile swath of Boston’s Back Bay. Increase in searches: 108.1%.

7. Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster, Pigeon Forge, TN: Zip downhill for a mile on this coaster. Increase in searches: 107.6%.

8. The Grand Ole Opry, Nashville, TN: Listen to country music in this 90-year-old concert venue. Increase in searches: 107.4%.

10. Jackson Square, New Orleans, LA: Watch street performers and grab quick eats from food vendors at the landmark in the Historic French Quarter. Increase in searches: 89.9%
