Pennsylvania brothers convicted in $32M Medicaid fraud scheme

Two Pennsylvania brothers were convicted by a federal jury for leading a decades-long racketeering enterprise that carried out multiple fraud schemes, including Medicaid fraud that caused more than $32 million in losses.

Prosecutors said Bhaskar Savani, D.M.D., 60, of Ambler, PA, a dentist who controlled multiple dental practices, and Arun Savani, 58, of Blue Bell, PA, who handled the group’s finances and real estate, operated the “Savani Group” — using nominee-owned dental practices to continue billing Medicaid after their contracts were terminated. The scheme also involved fraudulent H-1B visa applications to employ foreign workers, salary kickbacks, money laundering and obstruction of a grand jury investigation.

A third defendant, longtime executive Aleksandra “Ola” Radomiak, 48, of Lansdale, PA, was also convicted for her role in the health care fraud conspiracy. The brothers face potential sentences of more than 400 years in prison, along with fines. Radomiak faces up to 40 years in prison in addition to fines. Sentencing is scheduled for July 2026.

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has surgery

Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. underwent surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff on Tuesday and is expected to return to work next week, according to HHS. A spokesperson said the 72-year-old plans to resume duties on Monday. Kennedy has frequently promoted fitness since taking office as part of his “Make America Healthy Again,” or “MAHA,” campaign, even launching a public workout challenge with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth last year, encouraging participants to complete 100 push-ups and 50 pull-ups in under 10 minutes. Rotator cuff injuries — which can stem from aging, overuse or sudden trauma — sometimes require surgery when pain and weakness persist despite conservative treatment. The New York Times has more.

GLP-1 users love chocolate

Americans taking GLP-1 weight-loss drugs may be eating less overall, but they’re not giving up chocolate. Swiss chocolatier Lindt & Sprüngli, says chocolate sales are actually rising faster among GLP-1 users than the general population, citing Circana data showing that households using drugs such as Ozempic and Mounjaro account for about 15% of U.S. households but 17.5% of chocolate sales.

The company reported premium chocolate purchases among GLP-1 users rose nearly 17% in 2025, compared with a 6.5% increase among non-users. Executives say the trend reflects a shift toward smaller indulgences, with consumers cutting back on high-calorie staples like pizza and chips, opting for higher-quality treats instead.
