Largest insurer to offer Web visits

WellPoint Inc., the nation's largest health benefits company by medical membership, reported it will offer online visits to health plan members through the American Well Online Care platform.

WellPoint has 34 million members through its affiliated Blue Cross Blue Shield plans in 14 states.

Live physician encounters can occur through Web camera, online chat, or telephone. Physicians will be able to review the member's available clinical information, speak with the member, prescribe medications as appropriate, and suggest follow-up care. Reimbursement is not yet determined.
