Health care data breaches have been growing steadily

Between 2009 and 2020, 3,705 health care data breaches involving at least 500 records have been reported to the HHS Office for Civil Rights. Those breaches have resulted in the loss, theft, exposure, or impermissible disclosure of more than 268 million health care records. By 2020 an average of 1.76 breaches was being reported each day.
