Clearinghouses play a key role, too, in determining when-and in some cases, whether-you get paid. They not only relay your claims to payers electronically, but can boost revenue with tools for tracking claims in real time and handling rejections and denials. In a customer survey of such firms, conducted by KLAS Enterprises, Navicure led the pack, closely followed by ZirMed and Gateway EDI. Navicure scored a 91.6 performance rating, and ZirMed and Gateway EDI came in at 91 and 89.1, respectively. While Navicure charged more than most of its rivals, it was the only firm whose customers unanimously said they wouldn't switch to another vendor.
Six other clearinghouses rounded out the survey, in this order: RelayHealth, The Consult ECP, Misys Payerpath, Ingenix ENS, Emdeon Business Solutions, and Availity.
