Osteoporosis screening

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force has opened a public comment period for its study of screening to prevent fractures from osteoporosis. The Task Force recommends screening for women aged 65 years and older, and for women younger than 65 who may be at increased risk. The public comment period runs to July 8.

Getting bigger by making people smaller

In Denmark, the No. 1 business brand is Lego, maker of connecting plastic blocks that children love to build with, babies like to put in their mouths, and parents hate to step on. That could change come 2025, according to analysts tracking Novo Nordisk’s skyrocketing growth due to the GLP-1 agonist drugs Ozempic and Wegovy. Bloomberg has details.

Fueling the body and brain

Food fuels the body and our feelings, according to a new study of diet quality of 30 volunteers. People who eat a poor diet have changes in neurotransmitters and grey matter volume of the brain, compared with those who eat a healthy Mediterranean style diet. Those changes in brain chemistry can contribute to depression and anxiety. The good news: “We can eat ourselves well!” one researcher said in an accompanying news release.
