Key regulatory changes that could affect physician pay next year.
The 2026 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) has been published with 1,803 pages of rules affecting health care reimbursement for doctors next year.
Announcing the MPFS, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., included a statement acknowledging the importance of independent medical practices and America’s hometown doctors. He also credited Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Mehmet Oz, MD, MBA, for leadership to modernize CMS payment systems while tackling waste, fraud and abuse.
“We are taking meaningful steps to modernize Medicare, cut waste, and improve patient care,” Oz said in the news release. “We’re making it easier for seniors to access preventive services, incentivizing health care providers to deliver real results, and cracking down on abuse that drives up costs. This is how we protect Medicare for the next generation while helping Americans live longer, healthier lives.”
