CMS' proposed cuts to physician fees focus on the operating room. For the primary care physicians managing recovery after surgery, the real gap is much larger.

Andrew Wickline, M.D., FAAOS, is chief medical officer at Kinomatic and a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in total hip and total knee replacement. In more than 17 years of practice, he has built deep experience in computer navigation and robotic surgery, muscle-sparing approaches including anterior hip replacement, and tourniquet-free knee replacement.
He developed the Therapy-Free Total Knee Replacement, a protocol that reduces pain, lowers cost, and speeds recovery by letting patients rehabilitate at home rather than in a facility. Built on extensive preoperative education and patient optimization, the program has produced a complication rate half that of the nation's top 200 orthopedic hospitals.
Dr. Wickline teaches anterior hip and outpatient joint replacement techniques to surgeons in the United States and India, and speaks widely to surgeons and patients about therapy-free, narcotic-free recovery. He completed his fellowship training at the Cleveland Clinic, founded the total joint replacement program at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, and launched the Accelerated Outpatient Recovery System there and at Apex Surgery Center. Outside of medicine, he's a hot rod and road racing enthusiast.
