This slideshow presents the states with the most osteopathic physicians (DOs), as compiled by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). The report, “2025 Osteopathic Medical Profession Report: Growing to meet our nation’s healthcare needs,” was published in October.

Osteopathic physicians tend to practice in or near communities where they complete their education and training. Many osteopathic medical schools also are located in medically underserved areas, meaning DOs are treating patients where communities have limited access to care, according to AOA.
