Physicians in private practice — or not: Contributing to the MAHA movement

Fact checked by:

A leader of the American Independent Medical Practice Association discusses new AMA findings about the state of private practice physicians.

Independent physicians can contribute to the national effort to Make America Healthy Again in at least two ways. Patients need access to doctors, and physicians in private practice can lead innovations in managing chronic disease. Those factors could be vital in the new national effort to Make America Healthy Again during the current term of President Donald J. Trump. Paul Berggreen, MD, a gastroenterologist and president and board chair of the American Independent Medical Practice Association (AIMPA), describes those factors. More broadly, Berggreen spoke to Medical Economics about the Policy Research Perspectives paper, “Physician Practice Characteristics in 2024: Private Practices Account for Less Than Half of Physicians in Most Specialties,” published by the American Medical Association.
