With so many factors working against them, why would physicians want to go into private practice in the first place? And how does that factor into worrisome levels of physician burnout in health care? Paul Berggreen, MD, a gastroenterologist and president and board chair of the American Independent Medical Practice Association (AIMPA), begins his discussion about medical and clinical autonomy, what that means for doctors and patients. More broadly, Berggreen spoke to Medical Economics about the Policy Research Perspectives paper, “Physician Practice Characteristics in 2024: Private Practices Account for Less Than Half of Physicians in Most Specialties,” published by the American Medical Association.
