ACP position paper outlines how the U.S. health care system's institutional barriers hinder physicians and budding doctors.

The U.S. health care system has a number of institutional barriers that need to come down. Physicians with disabilities are helping patients and improving practices within health care, but the system is not responding in kind, according to the American College of Physicians (ACP).

The ACP recently published "Fostering Support and Inclusion for Physicians, Postgraduate Trainees, and Medical Students With Disabilities: A Position Paper From the American College of Physicians," along with a companion paper calling for improvements to address disparities faced by patients with disabilities in U.S. health care.

This slideshow presents key recommendations that the ACP says are needed to eliminate mistreatment and integrate physicians with disabilities.
