Health care workers who are struggling may feel isolated, and may turn to colleagues for help. That support is vital in the workplace, but using the proper peer reference forms also are important to avoid creating an environment in which physicians and other clinicians can’t or won’t help each other with mental health issues. Stefanie Simmons, MD, FACEP, chief medical officer of the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes’ Foundation, offers this distinction.
