Antibiotics were one of the greatest medical developments of the 20^th century. But even upon their discovery and earliest use, scientists have known germs could evolve to develop immunity against them. Known as antimicrobial resistance, experts warn this could be one of the greatest health threats of the 21^st century. Priya Nori, MD, is the medical director of antimicrobial stewardship at the Montefiore Health System in the Bronx, New York. Here she describes the scale and scope of the problem in state of medicine in 2025.
