Implicit bias in medicine: Its roots and impact

The nationwide protests following the death of George Floyd have focused attention on racial inequalities throughout American society. Much of this inequality is institutional, but some is the result of implicit bias, the unconscious assumptions people hold about individuals or groups different form themselves. Implicit bias is widely acknowledged to be among the causes of race-based disparities in health outcomes.
