The second term of President Donald J. Trump has had no lack of developments affecting health care.

How will the administration’s actions affect the practice and the business of medicine? We want to hear from physicians about immediate effects and potential directions for the future.

Since the president took office in January, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., an environmental activist who also has been a public vaccine skeptic, has taken the helm of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). There have been new leaders, including physicians, appointed to lead some of its key agencies.

The administration has published the Make America Healthy Again Report, a review of dietary, medical and environmental factors affecting the health of the nation, especially its children. Kennedy fired members of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, then appointed new members for the panel’s meeting in June.

The Supreme Court made a ruling about the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) that resulted in continuing free coverage for some tests and treatments designed to prevent illness. However, Kennedy canceled that task force’s most recent meeting.

Congress has passed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. While not strictly a health care bill, KFF analysts said it will be the biggest change to the U.S. health care system since the Affordable Care Act (ACA) due to provisions affecting Medicaid, hospitals, and health insurance made available through ACA Marketplaces.

As recently this week, physicians, hospital and health system leaders, and other clinicians are digesting the draft 2026 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule. New proposed rules for Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) and Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) Payment System were announced the evening of July 15.

These and other developments have prompted praise and criticism in the opening days of the initiative to Make America Healthy Again.
