Robert E. Oshel, PhD, an adviser to the Public Citizen Health Research Group, explains history of the report.

In August 2023, Public Citizen, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit consumer advocacy group, published the report, “Ranking of the Rate of State Medical Boards’ Serious Disciplinary Actions, 2019-2021.” Public Citizen rated the 50 state medical boards for their disciplinary actions against physician misconduct for the period 2019 to 2021. Coauthor Robert E. Oshel, PhD, describes the origin of the report.
