Coronavirus case numbers in the United States: AUGUST 17 update

Data from the COVID tracking project on coronavirus cases, test results and more.

How many novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases were announced today?

The COVID Tracking Project is a volunteer effort to compile federal and state data in regards to new COVID-19 cases, including number of positive and negative tests.

Here’s the latest data, updated on August 17:

Positive tests: 5,379,370

Negative tests: 61,590,420

Pending tests: 4,302

Number of hospitalized patients: 44,029

Patient deaths: 161,992
