Terry Bauer, CEO emeritus of Specialdocs Consultants, has more than four decades of healthcare leadership experience. He joined Specialdocs in 2016 with the goal of elevating the profile of this firm that has pioneered the transition from traditional to independent concierge medicine practices, and with Vice President of Business Development Andrew Bonner, thoughtfully expanding the Specialdocs’ growing national network of exceptional physicians. Their success is evident: the company now has 104 locations in 23 states, serving more than 43,000 member patients, and a 98% renewal rate for its physician clients.
Terry’s vision of concierge medicine as an innovative and sustainable model for healthcare’s future began in 1999 when he first learned of the business from industry pioneers, and in 2013, in his role as Entrepreneur in Residence at The University of Alabama’s Manderson Graduate School of Business, he led a team of select graduate students in evaluating strategic opportunities in the concierge/membership medicine industry. Terry’s career includes a long tenure as co-founder, president, CEO, and director of Orion HealthCorp, a national physician services and management organization, and as principal and strategy practice leader at Portland, Maine- and Atlanta, Georgia-based healthcare consulting firm Stroudwater Associates. Notable accomplishments include co-founding a successful physician practice management company for hospital and office-based physicians, serving as CEO of a company that was #8 on the INC 500, and launching a group purchasing organization serving more than 3,700 physicians. He retired from Specialdocs earlier this year and now serves as CEO emeritus and continues on as a member of the board of directors for Specialdocs parent company.
