Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in MAINE launched a pilot program that offers online visits to patients of physicians at two medical centers affiliated with Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems. The patients can communicate via email with their provider about non-emergent issues, in addition to scheduling appointments, checking on test results, or requesting prescription refills.

The University of CALIFORNIA at San Francisco alerted approximately 600 patients/individuals in December that a hacker might have obtained temporary access to emails containing their personal information due to a phishing scam. A faculty physician received an e-mail message fabricated by a hacker which appeared as if it came from UCSF internal computer servers.
