Consolidation is inevitable due to government regulation, but David Mandell, principal of asset management firm OJM Group, LLC, still thinks there’s a strong entrepreneurial spirit among physicians.

“Docs inherently want to be their own boss, and don’t want to be employees,” Mandell said. “So there’s a fundamental tension there.”

So despite the fact that he believes consolidation is the future of health care, Mandell expects there will remain resistance and an interest on the part of some physicians to remain individual.
