The concept of the luxury car is changing. For instance, there’s the Kia Cadenza that looks, feels and acts like a luxury car, but that doesn’t mean Kia will call it as such. Plus, luxury is now becoming more affordable.

Sure, the 2014 Cadillac CTS could cost up to $69,000, but the BMW 4-Series is priced at just over $41,000. And there are even more luxury cars that can be purchased for under $40,000.

Kelly Blue Book has released its list of 10 best luxury cars under the $40,000 mark, which is good news for the savvy shopper who realizes a car loses a lot of value simply by being driving off the lot. (See: Four Financial Considerations When Purchasing a Vehicle)

“These days, legit luxury transportation is both better than ever and affordable for folks like you and us,” according to KBB.com.

Looking at the list of the top 10, Lexus is playing to win with two entry-level luxury cars.

10. 2014 Volvo S60

MSRP: $33,315

Perhaps a Volvo doesn’t pop to mind when you think of luxury cars, but the S60 can match some of the big-name players in luxury appointments, driving characteristics and safety technology, according to KBB.com.

9. 2014 Buick Enclave

MSRP: $39,665

Safe family cars don’t have to lack luxury. This upscale SUV seats 7 and has innovative safety features that will make parents feel better about having the kids in the car. Plus, it’s sleek enough that when the kids are home for the night, you can still drive the Enclave around on your own.

8. 2014 Acura RDX

MSRP: $35,415

“While it may not have the prestigious curb appeal of its European rivals, the Acura RDX stands out for its ability to so effortlessly blend the core elements of luxury motoring with compelling value for dollar,” according to KBB.com

7. 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class

MSRP: $30,825

The all-new CLA is the most affordable Mercedes and is so good that it made The Car Connection’s list of top luxury cars for 2014, right alongside the much more expensive Cadillac CTS. The CLA is a scaled down version of the CLS.

6. 2014 Lexus ES

MSRP: $37,530

Last year the ES, a go-to sedan for entry-level luxury shoppers, was revamped. The car seeks comfort and “remains the paragon for a reliable sanctuary on wheels,” according to KBB.com While the ES 350 can be bought for under $40,000, the ES 300h hybrid is a little over.

5. 2014 Infiniti Q50

MSRP: $37,955

The Q50 has a new look this year and is replacing the G37 sedan. According to TCC, the Q50 remedied the G sedan’s cabin noise issue, plus KBB points out that the car’s technology is top notch. While there is a hybrid version now available, it will cost at least $45,205. Like the CLA, the Q50 also made TCC’s luxury car list.

4. 2014 Lexus IS

MSRP: $37,010

Like the Q50 and the CLA, the Lexus IS was also on TCC’s list of best luxury cars of 2014. The car has an edgier look and better safety features than the previous model. According to KBB, the car’s new look is because Lexus is courting younger professionals.

“Its reputation for resisting both repair shops and depreciation, meanwhile, makes the IS sedan all the easier to recommend,” according to KBB.

3. 2014 Audi A5

MSRP: $39,895

The A5 has 220 horsepower and gets up to 32 MPG, plus KBB was captivated by the feel of its controls. The car’s performance and comfort blend perfectly.

2. 2014 BMW 3 Series

MSRP: $33,675

KBB can’t help raving over the 3 Series.

“All of those other cool cars from Bavaria are just window dressing for BMW's masterpiece, an exciting, affordable entry-level luxury car that you bought because you craved it, not because you couldn't afford the 5 Series.”

1. 2014 Cadillac ATS

MSRP: $33,990

The Cadillac CTS may be out of your price range, but the sport sedan ATS is plenty affordable despite what KBB calls a “Ritz Carlton interior.”

“The shock of desire that often accompanies a first look or first drive of Cadillac's newest nameplate says it all: Cadillac is a luxury carmaker to reckon with.”
