How to know if an innovation is right for you

Perhaps you’ve heard or read about an innovation being used by another practice or healthcare organization and wondered if it was right for you.

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality has produced a guide, “Will It Work Here? A Decisionmaker’s Guide to Adopting Innovations,” that can help you make the right call. It guides you through the four fundamental questions that have to be answered while considering any innovation:

• Does the innovation fit?

• Should we do it here?

• Can we do it here?

• How can we do it here?

Each of these questions has its own module, which include a range of questions and issues that must be addressed before deciding whether to adopt an innovation. If you decide to use the innovation, the publication offers a step-by-step guide to making it happen smoothly and effectively.
