Quick to the middle

Responding to market forces by being dynamic and flexible with staff pay.

In larger practices or health systems, newer employees may start above baseline pay and get to the middle of the pay scale more quickly, while more senior employees may progress more slowly to the top tiers of pay. That practice may be needed to attract new staff, says Ron Holder, MHA, chief operating officer for the Medical Group Management Association. Staffing in physicians’ practices, hospitals, and health care systems is expected to be one of the top administrative challenges facing the sector in 2023.
