Like other observers, David Classen of First Consulting Group believes that the driving force behind some hospitals' interest in helping doctors acquire EHRs is their desire to "engage" physicians. But he doesn't view this as simply a matter of filling beds. "The new era of engagement lets hospitals and doctors work together to enhance the quality of care," he points out. "In the era of public reporting and pay for performance, there's no choice but to partner with physicians to improve performance."
