The Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology, which certifies EHR systems, has restructured its workgroups, which consist of industry volunteers. There will be a new EHR Foundation workgroup to address EHR requirements applicable to all care settings, a committee that will explore certification of health IT networks, and other workgroups for ambulatory care, inpatient care, and emergency departments.

Five expert panels will focus on security, privacy, interoperability, and CCHIT's "expansion areas" of children's healthcare and cardiovascular medicine.
