How do physicians feel about diagnosing, treating long COVID?
De Beaumont Foundation has data from docs.
The nation’s Public Health Emergency for COVID-19 will end on May 11, and President Joe Biden sign legislation ending the pandemic national emergency on April 10.
But COVID-19 will linger in some patients showing symptoms at least 12 weeks after being infected. Known as long COVID, it could affect as many as one in five adults who had a known case of COVID-19, according to the de Beaumont Foundation, citing research by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control.
Another recent study estimated long COVID could cost the U.S. economy as much as $3.7 trillion, according to the de Beaumont Foundation.
In late 2022, the de Beaumont Foundation conducted a survey of physicians and patients with questions about long COVID. They agreed it’s a problem – but doctors may not yet be ready to help patients with it.
